The Return: Shadow Souls Chapter 11
Arizona was as hot and barren a state as Elena had imagined. She and Damon drove directly to the Juniper Resort, and Elena was depressed, if not surprised, to see that Matt was not checked in. ââ¬Å"It can't have taken him longer than us to get here,â⬠she said, as soon as they'd been shown up to their rooms. ââ¬Å"Unless ââ¬â oh, God, Damon! Unless Shinichi caught him somehow.â⬠Damon sat down on a bed and regarded Elena grimly. ââ¬Å"I guess I hoped I wouldn't have to tell you this ââ¬â that the jerk would at least have the courtesy to tell you himself. But I've been tracking his aura ever since he left us. It's been getting steadily farther away ââ¬â in the direction of Fell's Church.â⬠Sometimes, really bad news takes a while to sink in. ââ¬Å"You mean,â⬠Elena said, ââ¬Å"that he's not going to show up here at all?â⬠ââ¬Å"I mean that, as the crow flies, it wasn't all that far from where we got the cars to Fell's Church. He went in that direction. And he didn't come back.â⬠ââ¬Å"But why?â⬠Elena demanded, as if logic could somehow conquer fact. ââ¬Å"Why would he go off and leave me? Especially, why would he go to Fell's Church, where they're looking for him?â⬠ââ¬Å"As for why he'd leave: I think he got the wrong idea about you and me ââ¬â or maybe the right idea a little earlyâ⬠ââ¬â Damon raised his eyebrows at Elena and she threw a pillow at him ââ¬â ââ¬Å"and decided to let us have some privacy. As for why Fell's Churchâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Damon shrugged. ââ¬Å"Look, you've known the guy longer than I have. But even I can tell he's the Galahad type. The parfait gentil knight, sans peur et sans reproche. If I had to say I'd say he went to meet Caroline's charges.â⬠ââ¬Å"Oh, no,â⬠Elena said, going to the door as a knock sounded. ââ¬Å"Not after I told him and told him ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Oh, yes,â⬠Damon said, assuming a slight crouching position. ââ¬Å"Even with your sage advice ringing in his ears ââ¬â ââ¬Å" The door opened. It was Bonnie. Bonnie, with her petite frame, her curly strawberry hair, her wide, soulful brown eyes. Elena, in a state to disbelieve the evidence of her own eyes, and still not through with the argument with Damon, shut the door on her. ââ¬Å"Matt's going to get lynched,â⬠Elena almost screamed, vaguely annoyed that some knocking was going on somewhere. Damon uncrouched. He passed Elena on the way to the door, said, ââ¬Å"I think you'd better sit down,â⬠and then sat her down by putting her in a chair and holding her there until she stopped trying to get up again. Then he opened the door. This time it was Meredith knocking. Tall and willowy, with her hair falling in dark clouds around her shoulders, Meredith radiated the intention to go on knocking until the door stayed open. Something happened inside Elena, and she found that she could get her mind around more than one subject at once. It was Meredith. And Bonnie. In Sedona, Arizona! Elena leaped up from the chair where Damon had put her and flung her arms around Meredith, saying incoherently, ââ¬Å"You came! You came! You knew I couldn't call you, so you came!â⬠Bonnie edged around the embrace and said to Damon in an undertone, ââ¬Å"Is she back to kissing everyone she meets?â⬠ââ¬Å"Unfortunately,â⬠Damon said, ââ¬Å"no. But be prepared to be squeezed to death.â⬠Elena turned on him. ââ¬Å"I heard that! Oh, Bonnie! I just can't believe you two are really here. I wanted to talk to you so much!â⬠Meanwhile, she was hugging Bonnie, and Bonnie was hugging her, and Meredith was hugging both of them. Subtle velociraptor sisterhood signals were being passed from one to another at the same time ââ¬â an arched eyebrow here, a slight nod there, a frown and shrug ending with a sigh. Damon didn't know it, but he had just been accused, tried, acquitted, and restored to duty ââ¬â with the conclusion that extra surveillance was necessary in the future. Elena snapped out of it first. ââ¬Å"You must have met with Matt ââ¬â he had to tell you about this place.â⬠ââ¬Å"He did, and then he sold the Prius and we sort of packed on the run and got plane tickets here and we've been waiting ââ¬â we didn't want to miss you!â⬠Bonnie said breathlessly. ââ¬Å"I don't suppose that would have been just about two days ago that you bought your tickets here,â⬠Damon asked the ceiling wearily as he lounged with an elbow on Elena's chair. ââ¬Å"Let me see ââ¬â â⬠Bonnie began, but Meredith said flatly, ââ¬Å"Yes it was. What? It made something happen to you?â⬠ââ¬Å"We were trying to keep things slightly ambiguous for the enemy,â⬠Damon said. ââ¬Å"But as it turns out, it probably didn't matter.â⬠No, Elena thought, because Shinichi can reach inside your brain whenever he wants and try to take away your memories and all you can do is try to fight him off. ââ¬Å"But it does mean that Elena and I should start off right away.â⬠Damon continued. ââ¬Å"I have to do an errand first. Elena should pack. Take as little as you can, just the absolute essentials ââ¬â but include food for two or three days.â⬠ââ¬Å"You saidâ⬠¦starting now?â⬠Bonnie breathed, and then she sat down abruptly on the floor. ââ¬Å"It makes sense, if we've already lost the element of surprise,â⬠Damon replied. ââ¬Å"I can't believe you two came to say good-bye to me while Matt watches over the town,â⬠Elena said. ââ¬Å"That is so sweet!â⬠She smiled radiantly before adding, in her own mind, And so dumb! ââ¬Å"Well ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Well, I still have an errand,â⬠Damon said, waving without turning around. ââ¬Å"Let's say we'll leave here in half an hour.â⬠ââ¬Å"Stingy,â⬠Bonnie complained, when the door was safely shut behind him. ââ¬Å"That might have only given us a few minutes to talk before we start.â⬠ââ¬Å"I can pack in less than five minutes,â⬠Elena said sadly, and then got tangled up in Bonnie's previous sentence. ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËBefore we start'?â⬠ââ¬Å"I can't pack just essentials at all,â⬠Meredith was fretting quietly. ââ¬Å"I couldn't store everything on my mobile, and I have no idea when I'll be able to recharge the batteries. I've got a suitcase of stuff on paper!â⬠Elena was looking back and forth at them nervously. ââ¬Å"Um, I'm pretty sure I'm the one who's supposed to be packing,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"Because I'm the only one goingâ⬠¦right?â⬠Another look back and forth. ââ¬Å"As if we would let you set off into some other universe without us!â⬠Bonnie said. ââ¬Å"You need us!â⬠ââ¬Å"Not another universe; only another dimension,â⬠Meredith said. ââ¬Å"But the same principle applies.â⬠ââ¬Å"But ââ¬â I can't let you come with me!â⬠ââ¬Å"Of course you can't. I'm older than you,â⬠Meredith said. ââ¬Å"You don't ââ¬Ëlet' me do anything. But the truth is that we have a mission. We want to find Shinichi's or Misao's star ball if we can. If we could do that we think we could stop most of the stuff going on in Fell's Church immediately.â⬠ââ¬Å"Star ball?â⬠Elena said blankly, while somewhere in the depths of her mind, an uneasy image stirred. ââ¬Å"I'll explain later.â⬠Elena was shaking her head. ââ¬Å"But ââ¬â you left Matt to deal with whatever supernatural stuff is going on? When he's a fugitive and has to hide from the police?â⬠ââ¬Å"Elena, even the police are scared of Fell's Church now ââ¬â and frankly, if they put him in custody in Ridgemont it might be the safest place for him. But they're not going to do that. He's working with Mrs. Flowers and they're good together; they're a solid team.â⬠Meredith stopped to take a breath, and seemed to be considering how to say something. Bonnie said it for her in a very small voice. ââ¬Å"And I was no good, Elena. I'd started ââ¬â well, I started to get hysterical and see and hear things that weren't there ââ¬â or at least to imagine them and maybe even make them come true. I was scaring myself out of my mind, and I think I actually was putting people in danger. Matt's too practical to do that.â⬠She dabbed at her eyes. ââ¬Å"I know the Dark Dimension is pretty bad, but at least I won't be able to put houses full of innocent people in danger.â⬠Meredith nodded. ââ¬Å"It was allâ⬠¦going bad with Bonnie there. Even if we hadn't wanted to come with you I would have had to get her out. I don't want to be overly dramatic, but I believe that the demons there were after her. And that since Stefan's gone, Damon may be the only one who can keep them away. Or maybe you can help her, Elena?â⬠Meredithâ⬠¦overly dramatic? But Elena could see the fine tremors running under Meredith's skin, and the light sheen of perspiration on Bonnie's forehead that was dampening her curls. Meredith touched Elena's wrist. ââ¬Å"We haven't just gone AWOL or anything. Fell's Church is a war zone now; it's true, but we didn't leave Matt without allies. Like Dr. Alpert ââ¬â she's logical ââ¬â she's the best country doctor there is ââ¬â and she might even convince somebody that Shinichi and the malach are real. But besides all that, the parents have taken over. Parents and psychiatrists and newshounds. And they make it almost impossible to work openly anyway. Matt's not at any disadvantage.â⬠ââ¬Å"But ââ¬â in just a week ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Take a look at this week's Sunday paper.â⬠Elena took the Ridgemont Times from Meredith. It was the biggest paper in the area of Fell's Church. A banner headline read: POSSESSION IN THE 21ST CENTURY? Under the headline were many lines of gray print, but what really caught the eye was a photo of a three-way fight between girls, all of whom seemed to be undergoing seizures or contortions impossible to the human body. The expressions of two of the girls were simply those of pain and terror, but it was the third girl who froze the blood in Elena's veins. Her body was humped so that her face was upside down, and she was looking directly at the camera with her lips skinned back from her teeth. Her eyes ââ¬â there was just no other way to put it ââ¬â were demonic. They weren't rolled back in her head or malformed or anything. They weren't glowing eerily red. It was all in the expression. Elena had never seen eyes that made her sick to her stomach before. Bonnie said quietly, ââ¬Å"Do you ever sort of slip and get that feeling like, ââ¬ËOh, whoops, there goes the whole universe'?â⬠ââ¬Å"Constantly, since meeting Stefan,â⬠Meredith said. ââ¬Å"No offense meant, Elena. But the point is that all this has happened in just a couple of days; from the minute the adults who knew that there was something really going on got together.â⬠Meredith sighed and ran fingers with perfectly manicured nails through her hair before continuing. ââ¬Å"Those girls are what Bonnie calls possessed in the modern sense. Or maybe they're possessed by Misao ââ¬â female kitsune are supposed to do that. But if we could just find these things called star balls ââ¬â or even one ââ¬â we could force them to clean all this up.â⬠Elena put the newspaper down so she wouldn't have to see those upside-down eyes staring into hers. ââ¬Å"And while all this is happening, what is your boyfriend doing during the crisis?â⬠For the first time, Meredith looked genuinely relieved. ââ¬Å"He may be on his way as we speak. I've written to him about everything that's happening, and he was actually the one who said to get Bonnie out.â⬠She flashed a glance of apology at Bonnie, who simply lifted her hands and face to the heavens. ââ¬Å"And as soon as he's finished with his work on some island called Shinmei no Uma, he's coming to Fell's Church. This kind of thing is Alaric's specialty, and he doesn't get spooked easily. So even if we're gone for weeks, Matt will have a backup.â⬠Elena threw her own hands up in a gesture similar to Bonnie's. ââ¬Å"There's just one thing you'd better know before we start. I can't help Bonnie. If you're counting on me to do any of the things I did when we fought Shinichi and Misao last time ââ¬â well, I can't. I've tried over and over, as hard as I could, to do all my wings attacks. But nothing has ever come of it.â⬠Meredith said slowly, ââ¬Å"Well, then, maybe Damon knows something ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Maybe he does, but, Meredith, don't push him right now. Not right this minute. What he knows for certain is that Shinichi can reach in and take his memories ââ¬â and who knows, maybe even possess him again ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"That lying kitsune!â⬠Bonnie spat out, sounding almost proprietory. As if, Elena thought, Damon was her boyfriend. ââ¬Å"Shinichi swore he wouldn't ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"And he swore he'd leave Fell's Church alone, too. The only reason I have any faith at all in the clues that Misao gave me about the fox key, is that she was taunting me. She never thought we'd do a deal, and so she wasn't trying to lie or be too clever ââ¬â I think.â⬠ââ¬Å"Well, that's why we're here with you, to get Stefan out,â⬠Bonnie said. ââ¬Å"And if we're lucky, to find the star balls that will let us control Shinichi. Right?â⬠ââ¬Å"Right!â⬠Elena said fervently. ââ¬Å"Right,â⬠Meredith said solemnly. Bonnie nodded. ââ¬Å"Velociraptor sisterhood forever!â⬠They laid their right hands over one another's quickly, forming a three-spoked wheel. It reminded Elena of the days when there were four spokes. ââ¬Å"And what about Caroline?â⬠she asked. Bonnie and Meredith consulted each other with their eyes. Then Meredith shook her head. ââ¬Å"You don't want to know. Really,â⬠she said. ââ¬Å"I can take it. Really,â⬠Elena said in almost a whisper. ââ¬Å"Meredith, I've been dead, remember? Twice.â⬠Meredith was still shaking her head. ââ¬Å"If you can't look at that picture, you shouldn't hear about Caroline. We went to see her twice ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"You went to see her twice,â⬠Bonnie interrupted. ââ¬Å"The second time I fainted and you left me by the door.â⬠ââ¬Å"And I realized I could have lost you for good, and I've apologized ââ¬â â⬠Meredith broke off when Bonnie put a hand on her arm and gave her a little push. ââ¬Å"Anyway, it wasn't exactly a visit,â⬠Meredith said. ââ¬Å"I went running into Caroline's room ahead of her mom and found her inside her nest ââ¬â never mind what that is ââ¬â eating something. When she saw me, she just giggled and went on eating.â⬠ââ¬Å"And?â⬠Elena said, when the tension got to be too much for her. ââ¬Å"What was it?â⬠ââ¬Å"I think,â⬠Meredith said bleakly, ââ¬Å"that it was worms and slugs. She would stretch them up and up and they'd squirm before she bit them. But that wasn't the worst. Look, you had to have been here to appreciate it, but she just smirked at me, and said in this thick voice, ââ¬ËHave a bite?' and suddenly my mouth was filled with this wriggling mass ââ¬â and it was going down my throat. So I was sick, right there on her carpet. Caroline just started laughing, and I ran down again and picked Bonnie up and ran out and we never went back. Butâ⬠¦halfway down the path to the house, I realized Bonnie was suffocating. She had the ââ¬â the worms and things ââ¬â in her mouth and her nose. I know CPR; I managed to get most of them out before she woke up vomiting. But ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"It was an experience I would really rather not have again.â⬠The very lack of expression in Bonnie's voice said more than any tone of horror could. Meredith said, ââ¬Å"I've heard that Caroline's parents have moved out of that house, and I can't say I blame them. Caroline's over eighteen. All I can add is that everybody's sort of praying that somehow the werewolf blood will win out in her, because that seems at least to be less horrible than the malach or the ââ¬â the demonic. But if it doesn't win outâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Elena rested her chin on her knees. ââ¬Å"And Mrs. Flowers can deal with this?â⬠ââ¬Å"Better than Bonnie can. Mrs. Flowers is glad to have Matt around; like I said, they're a solid team. And now that she has finally spoken to the human race of the twenty-first century, I think she likes it. And she's been practicing the craft constantly.â⬠ââ¬Å"The craft? Oh ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Yeah, that's what she calls witchcraft. I have no idea whether she's any good at it or not, because I don't have anything to compare her to ââ¬â or with ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Her poultices work like magic!â⬠Bonnie said firmly just as Elena said, ââ¬Å"Her bath salts certainly work.â⬠Meredith smiled faintly. ââ¬Å"Too bad she isn't here instead of us.â⬠Elena shook her head. Now that she had reconnected with Bonnie and Meredith she knew she could never go into the Darkness without them. They were more than her hands; they were so much more to herâ⬠¦and here they were, each prepared to risk their life for Stefan and for Fell's Church. At that moment, the door to the room opened. Damon walked in, carrying a couple of brown paper bags in one hand. ââ¬Å"So everybody's said bye-bye nicely?â⬠he asked. He seemed to have trouble looking at either of the two visitors, so he stared particularly hard at Elena. ââ¬Å"Well ââ¬â not really. Not as such,â⬠Elena said. She wondered if Damon was capable of throwing Meredith out a fifth-story window. Best to break it easily to him, by degreesâ⬠¦. ââ¬Å"Because we're going with you,â⬠Meredith said, and Bonnie said, ââ¬Å"We forgot to pack, though.â⬠Elena slid quickly so that she was between Damon and the others. But Damon just stared at the floor. ââ¬Å"It's a bad idea,â⬠he said very softly. ââ¬Å"A very, very, very bad idea.â⬠ââ¬Å"Damon, don't Influence them! Please!â⬠Elena waved both hands at him in a gesture of urgency, and Damon raised one of his hands in a gesture of negation ââ¬â and somehow their hands brushed each other's ââ¬â and tangled. Electric shock. But a nice one, Elena thought ââ¬â although she didn't really have time to think it. She and Damon were both trying desperately to get their hands back to themselves, but didn't seem to be able to. Little shockwaves were running from Elena's palm all through her body. Finally, the disentanglement worked and then they both turned, in guilty unison, to look at Bonnie and Meredith, who were staring at them with enormous eyes. Suspicious eyes. Eyes that belonged in faces saying ââ¬Å"Aha! What have we here?â⬠There was a long moment when no one moved or spoke. Then Damon said seriously, ââ¬Å"This isn't some kind of pleasure trip. We're going because there's no other choice.â⬠ââ¬Å"Not alone, you're not,â⬠Meredith said in a neutral tone. ââ¬Å"If Elena goes, we all go.â⬠ââ¬Å"We know it's a bad place,â⬠Bonnie said, ââ¬Å"but we are definitely going with you.â⬠ââ¬Å"Besides, we have our own agenda,â⬠Meredith added. ââ¬Å"A way to cleanse Fell's Church of the harm Shinichi has done ââ¬â and is still doing.â⬠Damon shook his head. ââ¬Å"You don't understand. You won't like it,â⬠he said tightly. He nodded at her mobile. ââ¬Å"No electric power in there. Even owning one of those is a crime. And the punishment for just about any crime is torture and death.â⬠He took a step toward her. Meredith refused to back away, her dark gaze fixed on his. ââ¬Å"Look, you don't even realize what you have to do just to get in,â⬠Damon said bleakly. ââ¬Å"First, you need a vampire ââ¬â and you're lucky to have one. Then you'll have to do all sorts of things you won't like ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"If Elena can do it, we can do it,â⬠Meredith interrupted quietly. ââ¬Å"I don't want either of you to get hurt. I'm going in because it's for Stefan,â⬠Elena said hastily, speaking partly to her friends and partly to the innermost core of her being, which the shockwaves and pulses of electricity had reached at last. Such a strange, melting, throbbing sweetness for something that had started out as a shock. Such a fierce shock for simply touching another person's handâ⬠¦. Elena manged to tear her eyes away from Damon's face and tune back into the argument that was going on. ââ¬Å"You're going in for Stefan, yes,â⬠Meredith was saying to her, ââ¬Å"and we're going in with you.â⬠ââ¬Å"I'm telling you, you won't like it. You'll live to regret it ââ¬â if you live, that is,â⬠Damon was saying flatly, his expression dark. Bonnie simply gazed up at Damon with her brown eyes wide and pleading in her small heart-shaped face. Her hands were clasped together at the base of her throat. She looked like a picture on a Hallmark card, Elena thought. And those eyes were worth a thousand logical arguments. Finally, Damon looked back at Elena. ââ¬Å"You're probably taking them to their deaths, you know. You, I could probably protect. But you and Stefan, and your two little teenage girlfriendsâ⬠¦ I can't.â⬠Hearing it put that way was a shock. Elena hadn't quite thought of it like that. But she could see the determined set of Meredith's jaw and the way Bonnie had gone up a little on her toes to try to look bigger. ââ¬Å"I think it's already been decided,â⬠she said quietly, aware that her voice shook. There was a long moment as she stared into Damon's dark eyes, and then suddenly he flashed his 250-kilowatt smile at all of them, shut it off almost before it had begun, and said, ââ¬Å"I see. Well, in that case, I have another errand. I may not be back for quite a while, so feel free to use the room ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Elena should come to our room,â⬠Meredith said. ââ¬Å"I have a lot of material to show her. And if we can't take much with us, we'll have to go over it all tonight ââ¬â ââ¬Å" ââ¬Å"Then let's say we meet back here at dawn,â⬠Damon said. ââ¬Å"We'll set off for the Demon Gate from here. And remember ââ¬â don't bring money; it isn't any good there. And this is not a vacation ââ¬â but you'll get that idea soon enough.â⬠With a graceful, ironic gesture, he handed Elena her bag. ââ¬Å"The Demon Gate?â⬠Bonnie said as they went to the elevator. Her voice shook. ââ¬Å"Hush,â⬠said Meredith. ââ¬Å"It's only a name.â⬠Elena wished she didn't know so well when Meredith was lying.

After the Second World War
After the Second World War, the Western European countries, which were in a rapid development process, tried to meet the deficiencies in their labor supply from neighboring countries in the South, relatively less developed. This request directed to Turkey in the early 60s. Turkish emigration to Western Europe begins by the agreement with Germany made in 1961. This followed similar agreements with Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands in 1964, with France in 1965, and Switzerland in 1967. Additionally, Turkey has implemented its first five-year development plan in 1962. In line with this plan, ââ¬Å"increasing labor exportsâ⬠was considered a plan goal, along with measures to curb population growth. In the years 1966-67, the German automobile industry, which the Turks worked extensively, had crisis and about 70,000 Turkish workers had fired. Workers who lost their jobs tried to find jobs in neighboring countries such as Holland, Belgium, Denmark, and those who could not find sheltered with their coworkers for a while. The Turkish immigration process which was based on the individual invitation format and the institutional invitation format before bilateral agreements were signed. This process for the central regions, where labor is dominant from the surrounding regions, is the first phase of international labor migration that has never lost its unwavering social, economic, cultural and political dimensions. In the early years of migration until the mid-70s, the majority of immigrants were physically robust men who successfully passed through health checks. This trend gained momentum after 1963 with the partnership agreement signed between Turkey and the EEC. The following governments supported immigration. The promotion of worker' migration has been carried out as the official policy of the Turkish States since the beginning. Due to the economic crisis brought by the oil embargo in Western European countries, there have been significant changes in the structure of Turkish migrants, especially after 1973, when they stopped the recruitment of workers from Turkey. The Family Reunification Act, which first took effect in the Federal Republic of Germany at the beginning of March 1974, created a situation allowing Turkish immigrant workers to bring their family members to the countries they found. Since then, the family reunification process has become the main channel of legal immigration to European countries and has continued with the ongoing applications for marriage, illegal immigration and asylum for political purposes. Based on bilateral agreements with Germany on October 30, 1961 by the state initiated the process of Germany's Turkish emigration was legally terminated with stopping the intake of labor migration from Turkey on November 30, 1973. However, despite all the measures taken during certain periods of the migration movement, it is a known fact that it has been associated with global dynamics and is a systematic migration style.

The Idea of Youth Development in the Country Essay
The Idea of Youth Development in the Country - Essay Example According to the paper the main barriers that are playing a notable hand in terms of making any measures which are taken in order to prevent AIDS ineffective include lack of public awareness, low literacy rate, no system for sex education, and unsupportive behavior of the government and ethical disintegration of the society. The barriers are originating from one source that is lack of awareness which is fueled by low literacy rate. The people are unaware because they never received any information about the disease and therefore consider it as a myth until and unless it shows up with all of its symptoms and signs. In addition, the sex education is also not common in the country and because of this reason, the people engage in the sexual relations without succumbing to protective measures. The sexual needs are highly volatile in the uneducated people and they usually got carried away with the emotions and they often come to realize that they made a grave mistake but it is usually too late to say the least. The governmentââ¬â¢s inaction in this regard is a question mark as well. The holistic approach is required to get the demon under control. The steps needed to be taken to control the disease are difficult and time consuming. Leadership and innovation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Leadership and innovation - Essay Example This was supposed to be the case in innovation system that my group was supposed to come up with and present to hospitals (Northouse, 2012). However, team work does not always work out as one would like it to be and with this, there is bound to be friction between the members of the team. Furthermore, there is the possibility that, despite the urgency of the task, there is always bound to be the one person that would be considered as dead weight to the team. The aim of this paper is to act as a reflective diary to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of team work and the best way to deal with conflict in a team. To effectively analyze the strengths and weaknesses of team working and conflict management, I visited various hospitals, and this visit was part of an innovation trip that was supposed to be carried out as a team to make sure that the findings that were collected were to be compiled and presented to the different team members. However, this was not the case. When the team members met for the first day, there was a lot of friction between my team members due to the fact that some of the team members did not exhibit any of their findings or an interest in the task because they had not done anything. The fact that there were different people who had carried out the task at hand and others had not, caused tempers to flare and soon one team member was gunning for the others head. However, the point that arose was that there were different viewpoints on the same topic. This gave me as a leader whose team comprised of people of multidisciplinary backgrounds an opportunity to lead diverse people, and this was proving to be a problem in the long run. In a bid to curb the ensuing anger and conflict among the team member, I opted that the team members that had a background in nursing help those who were not as familiar with the topic. This put a spanner into the progress that the team was supposed to

Global Diversity Plan Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Global Diversity Plan - Term Paper Example Through global diversity management, heterogeneity in organizations can not only be recognized and valued to help the organization strengthen its performance. Often, managing diversity at a global level becomes a challenge for many organizations because of the numerous aspects that are involved. Global diversity management has become an integral process of an organization because mismanagement or lack of adequate management can result in different consequences such as dissatisfaction among the employees, marginalization of certain groups and impact on performance (Gardenswartz, 2003). Therefore, it is necessary to have a strategic plan as well as vision in place for diversity management at a global level that encompasses all the main risk-issues and has plans for redressing each of these issues. Objective The objective of this study is to create a strategic plan that would help in promoting in global diversity in an international organization that is based in the United States but ha s presence in China, Germany and Nigeria. As with most multi-national organizations, this organization too has a preference to maintain a consistent operating policy across the globe so that there is centralized control, better coordination and a uniform corporate culture. However, these policies would not be rigid, but would be in such a manner that it can be customized according to each particular office in a country. The long-term objective is to make global diversity as a strength for the organization. Composition and Management of Global Teams For any organization that has a high focus on global diversity management, a team of leaders from diverse locations would manage the global organization. This is imperative because this will make sure that the organization is a global organization that provides accurate representation of each of the offices across different geographies. One main aspect that needs to be highlighted in the global diversity management plan is the composition and management of global teams (Govindarajan & Gupta 2001). Even in situations where the office is much smaller when compared to other global offices, it is necessary that this office has a good representation in the global scheme of things. Even though the organization would have its headquarters in the United States, the offices in China, Germany and Nigeria will have an Office head, who would be a part of the Board of Directors so that each of these offices have equal representation and voice in critical decision making meetings. The offices have mostly been divided according the functions. The office in the United States would function as a central fulcrum and would have representation for all the functions of the organization. This is done to ensure business continuity; in the event of any situation, office is not able to function in any particular country. The sales function and marketing team would be based out of the United States because large majorities of the clients are located in the United States. The China office would focus highly on product development, where as the offices in Germany and Nigeria would work on product marketing plans. In addition, they would also participate in client interactions. Each of these functions would have a leader or head, who would report to the global leader of these functions based in the United S

Human resource management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words - 1
Human resource management - Essay Example The principles and concepts that underlie behavior are basic. Diverse studies of human behavior in work organizations identify the crucial role of managing human resources to assist in the improvement of productivity and performance, in marketing the products and services, and in designing strategies for recruiting, screening, hiring, evaluation, development and the promotion of workers. Human resources management is defined as the art and science of acquiring, motivating, and developing people in their jobs in the light of their personal, professional, and technical knowledge, skills, abilities, needs and values, and in conjunction with the accomplishment of individual, organizational and societal goals (Martires, 2004, p. 6). In this regard, the objective of this essay is to proffer relevant concepts and issues that pervade human resource management in organizations. Specifically, the following questions would be addressed: (1) what is the role of the HR function within a Company? (2) Which are the main responsibilities? (3) How do you think the HR Area gives a positive contribution to Management in order to achieve organizational goals? (4) How do you think this contribution can be measured? And, (5) what are the 3 most important HR best practices that should be developed and included in the HR strategic plan? Role of HR Functions In an organization, the human resources department (HRD) performs five functions for other departments ââ¬â job organization and information, acquisition, maintenance, development of personnel, and research on human resources. Its role is advisory utilizing the personnel policies of the organization, the data it accumulates and the studies it makes of its workers. An effective human resources management (HRM) is integral to the functioning of the organization and must therefore be the concern of management. By and large, these functions assume two very important elements in an organization which are jobs and people. Jobs are to be determined and established first after the organization philosophy is conceived. People are brought in to man the jobs in order for the organization to move. Jobs and people interact with each other. Gordon (2000) describes the real role of HR as magnetic management that ââ¬Å"can be the power that pulls disparate departments into a single productive unitâ⬠(p. 500). The HR manager should know and understand how an organization, particularly businesses, works specifically on the profit-and-loss aspect. The HR manager can be of great assistance in staffing the organization with the most qualified and productive people including executives who can contribute to profit or good delivery of services. Main Responsibilities The specific and technical duties of the HRD are complex and multifarious and are categorized according to its five functions ââ¬â job organization and information, acquisition, maintenance, development and research on human resources. The HRD performs gen eral management functions in relation to top management and to the HRD staff. Before hiring workers, available jobs have to be classified and corresponding job information described mainly in terms of duties and responsibilities. Qualifications of those who are to perform these jobs should be delineated in job specifications. The function of acquisition or procurement of HR includes five aspects: human resources planning, recruitment, screening,

History of Internet Advertising Essay Example for Free
History of Internet Advertising Essay The history of Advertising goes back a long time in history during the time of the Romans in which merchants had street signs advertising their wares. With the invention of printing press during the middle part of the 1400s, things changed as it heralded a new era that shaped the course of civilization. The rise of broadcast technology in the twentieth century had made further advances in the world of advertising. In the 1920s, radio advertising carried the industry into its prime and become central to the operation of the advertising world until the rise of television advertising in the 1950s which rose to its prominence ever since up to the present time in which another break through in advertising has risen, the internet. Although internet began in the late 1960s it was only during the creation of the ââ¬Å"Unix User Network or Usenetâ⬠(Prince, p. 3) that people got connected and ââ¬Å"ready to do businessâ⬠(p. ) through the ââ¬Å"store-and-forwardâ⬠net work ,where people could post news, views, and other communications to be read by others. Prince pointed out that the Usenet was ââ¬Å"quickly adapted as a high-tech classified circularâ⬠(wherein categories were established for listing of items for sale. However, it was only in 1995 that a more profound use of the internet for advertisement had started as advertisement becomes more informative and specific. The internet advertising has since then begun to take substantial share of the market advertisement, and the year 2000 recorded the big leap in the internet advertisement with over eight billion dollars in revenue. Since then though, the growth of the internet advertisement in terms of dollar revenues were up and down but it is indisputably that the internet advertisement has become the most sophisticated and far reaching mode of advertisement.

The Application Of Mis In Honda
The Application Of Mis In Honda Introduction Management Information system is a kind of system which helps in providing information to the organization so that they can run efficiently. MIS can be regarded as a subset of the whole internal control processes in an organization which consists of the documents, applications of people, technologies and processes that are used by management accountants which they use for solving business problems like pricing or costing the service or product (Bidgoli, 2010). Management Information System is different from the other kinds of information systems because they are applied in analyzing the operational activities of the organization. Rationally, MIS is used for referring the group of information management techniques applied together for the support of decision making process in a business which is Expert Systems, Executive Information Systems and Decision Support systems (Lucey, 2005). Honda A manufacturing organization Honda is the world largest producer of the motorcycles and internal combustion engines that are measurable by volume mainly producing more than fourteen million internal combustion engines each year. With the progress of Honda in the manufacturing sector, it has also generated astounding amount of data. Even though IT departments have an advantage over the improvement in the hardware components for storing large amount of data, but still the fact gap exists in the Honda to met the needs of useful data at aright time to make effective and efficient decisions. For Honda, getting right kind of information is important in todays environment which it was not required before, therefore reducing costs, enhanced productivity and maximization of profits. Managers of Honda have to administer the intricacy of the supply chain, internal control and manufacturing as well as meeting the customer and distribution demands. In todays business environment manufacturers are forced to make effective decisions on a regular basis with the limited information system. Honda has to face mounting globalization, increased competition than before and customers whose needs are reflected in their own facts and opportunities of a global market. Besides maintaining proficient business, Honda has grown its emphasis on the information technology. With the rising needs for partnership, connectivity and speed in the modern economy, Honda has started looking for ways to give authority to their employees so that they can work smartly to compete with their competitors in the current market scenario. Any business without the information technology is failed to deliver competitive edge and is just wasting the potential of their human resource. Honda observes this change and adopts useful hardware and software in their company. MIS -information across various departments With the advent of time, internet and the global economy has got so well with each other such that there is requirement of proactive plans to be implemented in the organization, thereby, constant connection of employees to the web and with each other. Most of the IT departments are spending their time on budgeting personal computer equipments, but making choice for the Hondas network hardware infrastructure seems to be a critical decision. When planning for the network infrastructure for Honda, it is vital to consider the issues like how employees will share access to the information, which of the data is important and how to maintain it, what is the actual demand; is it for wireless computers? And what are your plans for integrating peripherals. Hondas hardware pattern is the basic element for driving employees connectivity and collaboration. (Bocji, 2005) Performance and price are the key determinants which are there to dictate from where to begin the search. The present scenario for the hardware system consists of wide variety of providers or manufactures like Juniper, Foundry, Cisco and many more. The MIS systems from the top manufacturers are useful in providing implausible security and performance but it could be expensive for the company. Honda maintains the balance between the price and performance for smartening up their hardware equipments. Many companies are there who specialize in providing price efficient businesses through brand name network hardware equipment. For the purchase of new hardware equipment, Honda needs to look its eyes open for the alternatives that best suits to their company profile. Even, proper search should be made regarding potential services and additional support with the hardware equipments purchase. It should be certain that the hardware manufacturer should have a brand name while keeping in mind th e organizations decisions and interests. The tools of the management information system help the organization and its workforce in performing the jobs which are related to the processing of information. The collaboration of business systems and MIS is useful in decision making as it collates the production reports and business data. Application of MIS in Honda Helps in decision making With the presence of computer everywhere, it is hard for any business to escape from the use of IT systems. Some of the fields or departments are there in HONDA where MIS is priceless. While computers are not able to create strategies of their own but still they can help mangers of the organization in efficient decision making process and make them understand the usefulness of strategies. MIS is capable of converting data into useful information which can be employed in decision making. Even, MIS assists Honda in providing performance reports and financial statements which is functional for planning, supervising and implementation of plans. MIS also aids Honda in collating valuable information and transform it into rational reports which otherwise be useless as it is impossible to manage volumes of data manually. With the help of these reports, Honda can recognize trends and patterns which would be impossible if all the work is done physically. MIS systems make use of the raw data to run replication and answer a variety of theoretical questions such as what if concerning modification in strategies. For instance, MIS can tell Honda about the effect of alterations in price on the sales of their cars. Due to the Decision Support Systems, Honda can be enabled to make more of the informed decisions within the organizations which otherwise would be impossible without MIS. Data collection Even though MIS helps in collating numerable amounts of business information, but they are also useful for providing saving time benefit to the employees. In contrast with the past where files are to b handled manually, now MIS quickly examines the data after entering it into the computer through data processor. Thus, enhancing faster decision making in the organization which is reflect in the efficient working. Information system Everyday business require some or the other kind of information system in the organization. With the computerized system recording and business process management is vital to run the company at a profit as well as responding to the fluctuations in the market. Management information system, however, are perfect for gathering and reporting information related to the companys business process. MIS enables Honda to review the data and make use of the information for achieving the companys objectives. (Clarke, 2007) Management methods The information provided by the MIS help the managers to look at the areas or departments where there is need for the improvement (Pearlson, nd). What will be the techniques and approaches for correcting the business activities will lie on the part of mangers abilities and style of management that is practiced in the organization. By making use of de-centralized management approach, line mangers are able to make corrections quickly as it requires a great amount of autonomy in the management process. With the centralized management approach, the power and authority lies with the top management only so that they can take decisions (Stone, 2002). Resource management MIS system allows Honda to look at the utilization of resources and see if they are making use of the resources in a proper and efficient manner. Equipments, raw materials, assets, labor and some other are the examples of management resources that must be supervised and monitored regularly by the organization. With an inefficient use of resources company may be pulled back in the competitive environment and may loose competitive edge over the competitors. This also leads to the losses for the company by reducing profit margins and lessening sales. Decision process Many of the companies make use of some sort of decision processes when they gathered information from the MIS system. Every single unit of data is reviewed and is used to make decisions regarding operational activities, market trends, profit margins etc. the process of decision making consists of all the levels of management, tends to generate most well-informed decisions (Wright, 2009). Communication Appropriate communication allows managers to take decisions for the organizations based on the information provided by the MIS. Communication system permits top-level managers to discuss the data from the front-line managers and department level managers, thus, creating downward flow of the communication for making decisions. Upward flow of communication is also important for the decision making process which allows front-line managers to have an opportunity to discuss the information from MIS with the top level management. Open communication flow allows Honda to obtain input or information from all the levels of the management to make informed decisions obtained from the MIS system. Environmental management With the establishment of the business in the global environment, Honda is planning to introduce environmental management system for continually improving the practices to be done for the protection of environment. With the MIS system, Honda is getting proactive to acquire environmental management ISO 14001 certification for the production processes and other services. (Garson, 2003) Kinds of MIS Financial MIS this MIS states the past and present records of the Honda and its activities. The financial MIS shows the profits and losses of Honda, its financial records to represent how well company is going, decisions regarding control of the cost and spending of funds. Manufacturing MIS this MIS monitors the flow of goods and services, raw materials and components of Honda. Raw goods which are processed on Honda get monitored by this manufacturing MIS. In this way, Honda with the aid of manufacturing MIS can reduce and control the cost of goods and services. Marketing MIS this MIS is created for handling all the aspects of marketing like prices, sales, advertisements, product innovations, future decision making etc. Marketing MIS aids decisions regarding product appearance of the Honda. It helps the company in enhancing customer contacts by preparing questionnaires for the feedback by customers about the services of Honda and tracks out the spending habits of the customer. Human Resource MIS HR MIS helps Honda in recruiting and selection of candidates. Human Resource views the requirements of the workers, hiring procedures, workforce rules, and training and performance assignments. The task for the Hondas Human Resource MIS is to look at MIS also deals with the external and internal information or data. The information regarding the internal working of the Honda can be easily available from the companys network, for e.g., sales for each car. The information of the external environment can be collated from: MIS is however, different from information system and data processing system (Lauden, 2007). Operational information systems just read the collated data and perform the tasks like producing lists of stuff that are required for re-ordering. Data processing systems helps in recording daily transactions like sales of Honda cars in a particular month. Whereas MIS assist the managers in analysing and evaluating the data related to the sales to show the pattern and trends of diverse product lines, enabling them to make efficient decisions regarding the product and its promotion or whether the promotion should be discontinued. It even collects the external data: Data on the population shifts with the increase in age of the people, they are less likely to be interested in customizing cars. Intelligence about competitors activities this information can be gathered from the newspapers, articles or from market intelligence. Government Legislation if there is increase in minimum wages, then financial condition would change. Economic and Social Factors sales for the cars would fall in a particular area where the employer had closed its plant. MIS even collates the data regarding formal and informal flow of the information Formal Flow of information is the one in which a process is accepted, e.g. downloading the sales figures across the several branches. External information can be gathered through data collection agencies like Bradstreet and Dun which provides economic data for the commercial and academic organizations. Formal flows of information can also be collected from the people who are working on the similar document at different locations, by making use of company intranets and e-mails. Informal flows of information are provided through reading newspapers or articles, chance meetings, or by watching news. The medical care and payroll of the employees. Facilitation Decision Making at Three Tiers of Management Management Information System even provides Honda the information on the regular basis. The term MIS implies three main functions Arrangement, Purpose and Order. The information system is useful for various purposes and at various levels. Its main uses are: It helps in strategic planning and its implementation. It lessens or reduces the service cycles Enhances the productivity of the employees resulting in efficient working Better understanding of consumer needs and demands Lessening the product development and marketing life cycles Smoothening the progress of Honda business and re-engineering process. The use of MIS can be applied across the administration for Carrying the procedures of policy making Carrying the research and development Recognizing the kinds of risk and ways for managing it Meeting the necessary legislative and regulatory requirements Assessing performance, achievements and quality Enabling the efficient and effective use of resources Supporting reliable and quick decision making Providing facts for business transactions The process of decision making is fundamental at various levels in Honda. These are made within the Honda at Strategic, Programs, Operational and Activity level. MIS at Different Levels of Management in Honda: Senior Management it directs the senior management for planning strategic business plan, provides information for the positioning of the Honda business, implementing policies and plans, analysis of competitors and evaluation of performance of the employees and the external factors which have an influence over the direction of strategic plans. Middle level of Management at the middle level, MIS assists managers in performing operational and organizational functions by providing: Assessment of resource usage Data for operational planning Data for delivery procedures Information for synchronization of work units Ways for controlling budget and problem solving It also allows middle level management for program administration by Providing data for implementing procedures Managing resource usage Scheduling of project and plans Providing information for administrating programs Line Management it allows line managers to manage activities of Honda by providing Information for problem solving Data for making consistent decision making And information for routine service delivery MIS plays an important role for providing information to the mangers to perform the above functions so as they can make informed decisions (Oz, 2009). The main purpose of the Management Information System is the transformation of data from external and internal sources into useful and valuable information which can be used for making effective decisions. A manger can take two kinds of decision which can be either structured or unstructured structured decisions are repetitive decisions and are taken routinely regarding the replacement of a supplier or stock. Whereas unstructured decisions need proper insight into the problem, knowledge and evaluation for carrying the business processes. Mangers have to go through different stages while considering the related decisions Identify the problem the MIS provides information regarding the performance of the departments and where the actual problem is arising Mull over the solution proper use of spreadsheet to know the issue like what if Scenario The solution so chosen is based on the information provided by the MIS and mangers experience. The solution is then implemented and reviewed. At this level, MIS again provides the data according to which solution can be evaluated. MIS An Efficient Mean to Manage Business Process Business process management can be termed or defined as the series of activities that are implemented in business organizations ranging from planning, leading, organizing, monitoring and controlling (Jeston, 2008). The five major functions of managers of Honda are Planning the directive functions for the company like where it is going to operate, diversifying etc Organising it deals with the organising of the resources like space, people, services and equipment. Coordinating it requires the coordination of the activities of different departments of Honda Decision Making what decisions should be taken for the growth of Honda, its products and services, employees and its IT department Controlling supervising and monitoring the activities of various departments of Honda As a leading company in this global environment, Honda has to face several challenges for managing thousands of its existing parts and at the same time qualifying, sourcing and approving new products. With the increase in competitive pressure, Honda has chosen management information system for managing their business process in association with qualifying and sourcing new raw materials so as to meet the critical requirements for scheduling (Magal, 2009). Problems New parts are being sourced constantly causing duplication in the organization. Existing parts are required to be updated with the altering specification. For the substitute parts, time consuming search has to be done Solution With the employment of management information system, the duplication of parts is easily recognized, thus reducing surplus inventories or stocks. With the automation of vendors and raw materials and parts, the business process of Honda has shown efficiency Search is now become simpler as qualified vendors are supplying parts Benefits It provides vision to the managers to see backlogs and buyer workloads Now time required for sourcing the parts have been reduced due to MIS The suppliers and vendors are continually managed while assuring accuracy and reduction in cost at the same time. The schedules for the new products are met on time and is exceeded by reshuffling the business processà à With the enhancement of Business processes in Honda, there is need for more efficient production processes. With the improved and better information and data on the business processes, there is a closer approach to enhance the supply chain management which includes all the processes ranging from the sourcing of the raw materials to the production and allocation of the finished products. As a result of the improvement in management of supply chain, Honda is able to response efficiently to the changes in the market. With the efficient implementation of MIS, Honda is able to react rapidly to the external environment as well as MIS enable the organisation to render better and efficient service and products to be able to move ahead of their competitors and enjoying larger share of the market. While MIS is extremely helpful to generate data analysis and statistical reports, it is also useful for creating Management by Objectives tool. MBO is an administrative procedure through which managers and their subordinates and co-workers concur on the sequences of objectives to be achieved within a set time frame for the employees. Objectives are set with the SMART approach, that is, the goals should be specific, measurable, agreed, realistic and time-specific. The main purpose of SMART objectives is to give basic indicators through which an organization can judge or evaluate the performance of their employees. To make MBO a success, it is necessary to track the progress rate consistently. For this purpose, MIS system is best to make use of. As all the SMART objectives are measurable as mentioned in its name, the progress can be tracked with the help of management reports which are to be analyzed by the policy makers. Conclusions Every organization consists of one or more than one core competency, that is, to have a competitive edge over their competitors. With the application of proficient management information system, Honda has better chances to be ahead of their competitors. MIS provides necessary tools to Honda to better understand the enterprise and the external environment or the market. Management information system is an approach set out of internal control that helps Honda management in operating business day after day. It is just not a tool used for collating the information but allows the managers of Honda in the process of decision making that are used by the management. With the employment of MIS in the organization, Honda has found many benefits of it in the system. MIS assist Honda in describing its objectives and its resources. It even permits the managers of Honda for creating reports about the activities of the company regarding products and services, business partners, people, employees and inventories. It helps in keeping the resources of Honda in an organized manner. MIS track the records of resources and maintain the in an organized way. Influences on Nursing Professional Practice The Illness-Wellness Continuum, developed in the 1970s, illustrates that health is a dynamic state; there are several degrees of health. ââ¬Å"Good healthâ⬠, or High-Level Wellness, is achieved through awareness, education and growth, and is found on the right of the horizontal Illness-Wellness Continuum diagram. Signs, symptoms, and disability, which are evidence of worsening health (and eventually Pre-Mature Death), are found on the left side of the Illness-Wellness Continuum illustration as ââ¬Å"Poor healthâ⬠. In the center of the continuum is a ââ¬Å"Neutral Pointâ⬠, at which there is ââ¬Å"no discernible illness or wellnessâ⬠. (Travis, 2004). Congruent with the Illness-Wellness Continuum, the Constitution of the World Health Organization defined health as ââ¬Å"a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmityâ⬠. (World Health Organization, 1946). It is interesting to note that this definition has not been revised in more than six decades. This definition describes the integration of physical, mental and social well-being as health, and differentiates the state of health from the lack of disease. Wellness can be considered as the integration of mind, body and spirit. Optimal wellness allows us to achieve our goals and find meaning and purpose in our lives. Wellness combines seven dimensions of well-being into a quality way of living. Overall, wellness is the ability to live life to the fullest and to maximize personal potential in a variety of ways. Wellness involves continually learning and making changes to enhance your state of wellness. When we balance the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, occupational, spiritual, and environmental aspects of life, we achieve true wellness. (Nordqvist, 2014). Harvard-trained Andrew Weil, MD wrote that humans become familiar with health when they are ill or have a disease (page 41). (2004). It is important to realize that the traditional valuations of health as good and desirable, and illness as bad, are not necessarily clear-cut; ââ¬Å"health is the expansion of consciousness that transcends the illness-wellness dichotomyâ⬠. (Koerner, 2011). ââ¬Å"Health is wholeness ââ¬â wholeness in its most profound sense, with nothing left out and everything in just the right order to manifest the mystery of balance. Far from being simply the absence of disease, health is a dynamic and harmonious equilibrium of all the elements and forces making up and surrounding a human being.â⬠(page 41) (Weil, 2004). Health, then, encompasses both wellness and illness and/or disease. Health and healing may be examined in a number of ways, including through the models of the physical body and the body-mind-spirit. Models of Health and Healing Larry Dossey, MD pointed out how the perceptions and beliefs about health and illness have changed over time (Koerner, 2011). In Era I, which began in the 1860s, science was assimilated into the practice of western medicine. Health and illness were considered in the context of the physical body; the consciousness of individuals was a result of biochemical, structural, and physiological facets of the brain. Illness was considered to be ââ¬Å"physical in natureâ⬠; therefore, treatment had to be physical in nature. Surgery and medications treated physical illness. The term ââ¬Å"physicalâ⬠refers to the body of a person, rather than their mind, and existed in a tangible form which could be touched or seen. It was reasonable to conclude that the physical body was a basic component of each individualââ¬â¢s identity. The consciousness, or mind, of a patient was connected to the role of the brain. In the 1950s, Era II arose as practitioners expanded their considerations of health and noticed that thoughts, feelings, personal principles, attitudes and values impact physical health. Hypertension, myocardial infarctions, and ulcerations of the gastrointestinal system were attributed to emotional stress. During this time period, treatment modalities began to address the mind consciousness. (Dossey, n.d.). It has been said that many people still hold this perspective. (Koener, ) Based on the quantum physics pattern, the current perspective, Era III, identifies the consciousness which is not limited to a personââ¬â¢s body, but is described as ââ¬Å"infinite, immortal, omnipresentâ⬠. (Riley, 2011). A nonlocal mind is one without limits; consequently, an individualââ¬â¢s consciousness can influence and be influenced by othersââ¬â¢ emotions, including love and compassion. This meshing of consciousness creates unity, or ââ¬Å"onenessâ⬠among all humans; we have the ability to influence each other through connections which can be made in the nursing profession by nurturing transpersonal activities. Discussion. A significant distinction is found by comparing the mind in the physical body of Era I to the consciousness of Era III. In the 19th century, the mind was considered to be entirely separate from the neurologic function of the brain. In the modern Era, the limitless mind has been expanded to Body-Mind-Spirit and My Professional Presence Nurses are human beings, just like their patients. To truly partner in relationships that advance wholeness in patients (p. 18.) (Korner, 2011), nurses must be ââ¬Å"authentically presentâ⬠(Falk-Rafael, 2005). Rather than focusing on past or present events to explain physical and emotional states, nurses can assist patients to ââ¬Å"stay with their feelings and learn to observeâ⬠¦without reaction, description, or interpretation.â⬠(p. 18) (Koerner, 2011). This nursing presence creates the opportunity ââ¬Å"for real transformation and growth.â⬠(p. 18) (Koerner, 2011). Nursing theorist Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s caritas illuminate that at its core, transpersonal recognizes that the power of love, faith, compassion, caring, community and intention, consciousness and access to a deeper/higher energy source, i.e., ones God, is as important to healing as are our conventional treatment approaches, and is possibly even more powerful in the long runâ⬠(Falk-Rafael quoting Watson. See reference #30) http://eds.b.ebscohost.com.wgu.idm.oclc.org/ehost/pdfviewer/[emailprotected]vid=1hid=104 The framework of Caring Science ââ¬Å"is grounded in the ethic of ââ¬ËBelongingââ¬â¢ to that which is greater than our ââ¬ËBeingââ¬â¢; it goes beyond medical science, acknowledging the relational, life force; they philosophical, unitary field dimensions underlying all of humanity.â⬠(Watson Browning, 2012). http://watsoncaringscience.org/about-us/caring-science-definitions-processes-theory/ My Professional Presence Influences My Professional Practice Self-confidence, comfort with uncertainty, integrity, optimism, passion for work, and empathy are 6 features of professional nursing presence (Lachman, V, 2001). A nurseââ¬â¢s professional presence can facilitate an ââ¬Å"aura of competence and authorityâ⬠. (Chater, 2011) Classic dark suits with white blouses, a tidy hair style, quality shoes, and traditional jewelry project an appearance of confidence and create a favorable first impressions. Making eye contact, smiling, active listening and open body language can promote confidence from others. A professional presence allows nurses to distinguish themselves from other nurses. My knowledge, skills and abilitiesâ⬠¦. My ability to complete assignments and demonstrate accountabilityâ⬠¦ Self-promotion through networking, volunteering, appropriate social media can increase my professional presence. Promoting my own professional presence and showing respect to those with whom I come in contact can stimulate the profession of nursing. Crittenden, J. (2013). The discreet guide for executive women. San Diego, CA: Whistling Rabbit Press. http://www.discreetguide.com/articles/your-personal-brand-and-professional-presence/ I most closely relate to the concept of the body-mind-spirit in relation to my professional presence. Most disease or illness is manifested in our physical bodies. The physical pain we feel is a symptom of something in our body needing attention. We need diagnostic studies to identify abnormalities, and can Additionally, if we find ourselves catching bacterial and viral illnesses, it is beneficial to evaluate if there is compromise to the immune system, and address any deficiencies. The thoughts and emotions of individuals influence health, too. Anxiety, anger and frustration can cause blood pressure to elevate, resulting in poor perfusion. The spirit is ââ¬Å"the force within a person that is believed to give the body life, energy and powerâ⬠http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/spirit Because of my Christian beliefs, I consider each individualââ¬â¢s spirit to be their connection to divinity. If someone is experiencing pain, I think it is valuable to consider if there is pathological disease (i.e., a broken bone or diseased organ) which would benefit from medical attention through pharmaceuticals; some type of physical therapy; or rest. It is beneficial to examine Professional presence Increased awareness of my professional presence as a nurse can help me better integrate my insights, goals, and beliefs as I serve in roles of leader and follower. I was excited to read about Carla Woodyââ¬â¢s five-stage transformational remembering process of sparking, separation, searching, initiation, and re-entry. (p. 208). (Koerner, 2011). There is an opportunity for me to practice mindfulness in my personal life and professional life. I also am willing to take the time to learn and practice mindfulness. At greater frequency over the past year, I have found myself wondering the extent of ââ¬Å"nursing burnoutâ⬠that I feel. I turned 50 last year, and that milestone began me asking questions about what I want to do with the rest of my life. I am satisfied as a nurse; however, I am restless and relatively bored in my current position at work. I have recently completed my BSN, a second bachelor degree, and obtained board certification. One of my reasons for pursuing an MSN in Nursing Education is to keep a spark of learning, new knowledge, and inquisitiveness about me, because that is who I am. I embrace the possibility that ââ¬Å"a mindful person is relaxed. He or sheââ¬â¢s fully immersed in the here and now and has no regrets about the past or worries about the future.â⬠(Heard, Hartman, Bushardt, 2013). One thing that I have realized is that my focus is not going to be on tasks (which I referred to as what I want to do with the rest of my life), but on beingwhat I was to be for the rest of my life. The current assignment to examine what it means to me to be human has been a satisfying journey. I have identified that I want authenticity in my relationships, and that I want simplicity in my material belongings. By authenticity, I mean that I want to be myself, be natural, and find myself surrounded by a small core group of friends and family members who are the same way. When I say simplicity, I mean that I do not clutter in my surroundings. I want order and minimalism. I do not want fluff or dust collectors. I want my surrounding to be peaceful while reflecting who I am and buoying me, too. Jean Watsonââ¬â¢s Theory of Human Caring/Caring Science incorporated the principle of an ââ¬Å"authentic presenceâ⬠in which nurses honor, or respect, and connect as a human to other humans. http://watsoncaringscience.org/files/Cohort%206/watsons-theory-of-human-caring-core-concepts-and-evolution-to-caritas-processes-handout.pdf http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/topic/mindfulness/definition References A conversation about the future of medicine. http://www.dosseydossey.com/larry/QnA.html Barnett, J. Criminal Behavior Essay -- Social Issues, Crime
It has always been a traditional view that males commit more crimes than females as females are seen more as victims than perpetrators. According to most literature men are the predominant figures where crime is concerned and women are seen as law abiding citizens this essay will show that to an extent gender is a useful tool in explaining criminal behaviour in terms of whether a male or female may have committed a certain type of crime however because of the massive range of differences between different theorists and their explanations of female crime and the link to explaining behaviour there are lots of misconceptions regarding this. This essay will aim to analyse some of the key theorists ideas and use them for an overall explanation of the gender and the explanation of criminal behaviour link. During the early twentieth century it was believed that men were the main perpetrators of criminal behaviour(Williams 2004), there was not a female crime category, crime was believed to be dominated by males so all crime fell into male categories.(Maguire, Reiner and Morgan 2002) It is universally believed that males commit more crimes than females and according to the office for national statistics in 2002 males committed four times more crime than females. The figures of male offending rates has stayed fairly consistent in 1984, 84 percent of offenders were male and in 1999 the figure of male offenders was at 83 percent, in 2006 the figure was at 80 percent (Office for national statistics, 2002). In 2006 the statistics showed that in all major crime categories males outnumber females, between 82 and 94 percent of males were convicted of offences such as burglary, drug offences, criminal damage and violence against the person wit... ... Official statistics do show that there is a definite link between Gender and Criminal behaviour however statistics do not explain the actual causes of criminal behaviour, statistics only really show patterns of male and female offending rates. Unfortunately most of the theorists mentioned above have based their theories on assumptions with no real scientific proof however the social explanations regarding crime seem to offer a more acceptable explanation of gender crime and behaviour but seem to ignore important questions such as why do women commit crimes and to what extent is male crime regarded as normal behaviour. Furthermore there is still the controversy surrounding biological and physiological theories. Even though most of these theories get discredited, small parts of these theories get taken, inspiring more research into the area of gender and crime.

An Analysis of Adamââ¬â¢s Song Essay -- Adamââ¬â¢s Song
An Analysis of Adamââ¬â¢s Songà à à à à Bob McKenty suggests in the poem "Adam's Song" that life is not a stationary event, it is forever changing and that in order to handle those changes humor serves as a good buffer. The tone of "Adam's Song" changes distinctly at least three times. McKenty uses rhythm, rhyme, and meter to express the essence of change in the poem and in life. The first couplet of the poem is iambic tetrameter and expresses a sentimental, romantic and lyrical tone. The speaker in the poem at this point could be described as a possibly young and naive lover. The author uses the uniformed meter, assonance and ending rhyme with few surprises to declare the traditionally romantic and lyrical "love poem" style verse of the first two lines "Come live with me and be my love./Come romp with me in Eden's grove". McKenty uses an irregular change in meter and internal rhyme in lines 3 and 4 to begin the emphasis on the inevitable changes of life "In unabated joy, not shy/But unabashed by nudity..." In the second couplet the idealism of the first two lines also changes to...
Essay --
The Effects of Revenue Management in the Hospitality Industry Up until recent years Revenue Management was something that has never been heard of. Now days, it is something that hotel managers cannot go without. They spend numerous amounts of time checking their computers for the nightly rates of the hotel. But what exactly is Revenue Management? ââ¬Å"Revenue Management (RM) is a scientific technique that combines Operations Research, Statistics and Customer Relationship Management and categorizes customers into price bands, based on various servicesâ⬠(Revenue Management, 2010). In other words someone might reserve a room that is at a going rate of $245 per night while their cousin who reserved a room at the same hotel months in advance only has to pay $105 per night. Now you may ask yourself how hotels can get away with doing this? But what it all boils down to is that someone who reserves a room last minute will end up paying the higher amount because his or her demand for the room is higher. This technique of raising or lowering prices based on the demand of the guest is something that airlines have been using for some time now. The first two airlines to use Revenue Management in 1985 were United and American Airlines. They used a series of algorithms to determine the best price to sell their seats (Desiraju & Shugan, 2000). The reason Revenue Management came about in the airline industry had to do with the airplanes only having a select amount of seats. Trying to sell all of the seats at the same price is very difficult to do especially when the airlines needed to at least be able to cover fixed operating expenses. A lot of times the planes would be left with empty seats, which, doesnââ¬â¢t help the airlines make any money. So by a... ...hould not be. Alan Campbell who has been working in the hotel industry for over thirty years believes that there should be more that goes into Revenue Management than just what the computer tells us. Campbell states, ââ¬Å"Revenue managers need to have a feel for the system, not how it works, but what it does, and how it does it.â⬠In other words a Revenue Manager must know all of the events happening in the area as well as all of the other venues in the area. They must have an instinct for knowing if the numbers are right and will bring the hotel the best property rates. Campbellââ¬â¢s views and ideas are something that is spreading within the Hospitality Industry, because when you are aware of the ââ¬Å"human factorâ⬠as he calls it, properties are able to increase their Revenue per available room (Revpar), and occupancy percentages, above what the software will predict.

After high school
Essay After high school, when I first started college I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do with my life at the time, but I had planned to be a business man of some sort and get my degree in business, then I realized that in todays economy most new businesses are not that successful, plus you need money to actually start up a business on your own. So I did some thinking and have decided to get my degree in science and become a pharmacist. The reason I choose this field is because they get paid quite a it annually, they are in demand as well as doctors and physicians assistants, so you wouldn't have to worry about losing your Job due to having too many of them. If I go through with becoming a Pharmacist, I would want to work at a big building of some sort, for example, a hospital, or somewhere besides a drugstore like Walgreens or CVS. The only thing as of now that I wouldn't like about being a pharmacist is the fact they have to stand on their feet most of the day, which I wouldn't mind if I could actually walk around to different areas of my workplace. Also the fact that what they do is going to be the same every day. If I decided not to become a pharmacist, I would probably think about being a physician's assistant. My reason for that is because they also get paid well, you could learn and experience a variety of different things in that type of work, and their duties can change on certain days since they are assisting the actual physician. I don't like the fact that a physician's assistant will never be independent, and that they might actually have to operate on people.

Why humans are responsible for evil not Satan
C. Contact your representative to send them an email showing them that you support immigration reform. The best part is, it takes two minutes. Conclusion l. Today I have told you about why immigration laws were created, how some immigration laws affect transgender immigrants and undocumented students, and what you can do to help reform the immigration systems. VIII. So get informed and involved. We live in California, a border state, so we're more likely to be neighbors with someone that may be undocumented, someone that you may have grown up knowing.Be a supporter of immigrants, because according to Conor Oberst, ââ¬Å"Considering out history, I can think of nothing more American than an immigrant. â⬠References Marriage-based Petitions http://immigrationequality. org/issues/transgender/ marriage-based-petitions/ Cintron, E. J. (2012). Transformation: the Progression of Immigration Petitions for Transgender Spouses. Family Court Review, 50(4), 666-678. Why humans are responsib le for evil not Satan By tearsshaven As an ancient chinese proverb said , ââ¬Å"A good man lives a hundred years but an evil man lives a thousand years. Dating from histories to the current world, we are constantly bombarded with news, scandals and histories of people being exposed of their evil often only when the damage had been dealt to their victims. Most religions would accuse this evil influence on demons and Satan brainwashing humans. However, despite these accusations, have we paused to ponder if these actions were really influenced from a supernatural force or created from our psychological brains in the realms of our conscience ?For example , Muammar Gaddafi, the past ruler and politician of Librayan, claimed he was trying to equalize the status of women with men but in truth , he commited atrocities and rape. He proclaimed to treat women and men equally and had his elite bodyguards entirely only women as proof. He was even described as a strict , holy nd religious Islami st. However , in the shadowy depts of deceit, he raped and abused them to fulfil his perverted desires. It was only after his death did the abused victims revealed the horrifying ordeals they suffered. Lets look into the case of Miley Cyrus .In 2013 , she did a controversial and raunchy dance with Robin Thicke at the VMAS. It sparked outrage among parents and the Christians from Miley's hometown claimed that she had been influenced by the devil . The same could be said for Katy Perry when her Dad , a pastor in a Church, accused her of being influenced by the devil when she performed provocative music ideos. If we analyse this matter without being subjective with religious views, we would see that Miley and Katy Perry's actions were techniques to gain the most attention and fame in the shortest amount of time. Why does Katy Perry , a mere music star , have more followers on Twitter than Barack Obama who is President to United States , the most important country in the World ? Sadly , young sex Just sells. The psychological need in humans is sex. Most people are more interested in her luscious figure in the MVs than to know about Barack Obama and the World. No one nfluenced us to follow them on Twitter , we are Just driven by our instincts to the appealing image. Who were the ones who created porn websites ? The spirits didn't, the Devil didn't, humans did it.Why did we do it ? We are built to have sex and reproduce. Why are so many rapes commited? The rapists were desperate in their needs, unable to control and they were always known to be porn addicts. In the modern world, it is indispensable that we control our sexual instincts as what humanity perceives as ââ¬Ënot being an animal' and having a sense of morality. Men that go to postitues are Judged s horny and perverted men while postitues and porn stars are labelled as whore relieve thier human instincts and finding postitutes seemed the only option available.Based on the Indian Movie known as Silk , a bol lywood actress named Silk gains fame and fortune by flaunting her body and promoting sexual appeal much to the digust of other conservative Indian women . Men , however, flocked to see her but treated her only as a sex toy . In their conscience , they only saw her as an appealing sex tool who had no respect for herself. In the end , she committed suicide from the pressure he faced and the toyed love she had. Most of the revered Hindus there also said she was a dirty soul who would fall into hell for disobeying the law of the Gods for flaunting sex.Yet this is only what humans think. The Bible and other Holy Books were all written by humans . Whether they had really written it as orders from God , no one is 100% sure as we do not have concrete evidence that there is God. We could have also been the ones who invented God . When the Holy Wars were declared and the fighters were determined to shed holy blood in the name of their God , how could they not stop to think if it was Just ense less bloodsheds ? As quoted from Woodrow Wilson , ââ¬Å"War isn't declared in the name of God ; it is a human affair entirelyâ⬠.We shouldn't account our actions in the name of Gods , we have have account it to ourselves. We were influenced to worship God by ourselves. Look at Reetah Parson and Amanda Todd's case , both were Jovial and nice people who were destroyed by ââ¬Ëevil' people . They both reported the abuse to the Police but were taken for lightly. in addition , their classmates and others Joined in to bully and humiliate them because the bullies felt disgusted with them. The teachers were round and acted as if they were oblivious to the bullying. In the end , both Reetah and Amanda committed suicide from overwhelming pressure and depression . It was only after their tragedy was reported in the news did the Police did a through investigation. The online pages in memory of the girls also gained many sympathies and people who said they would have been friends with them to protect them from the bullies had they known. Previously , the dead girls had their Facebook profiles filled with malicious comments from friends , classmates and other people asking them to die. Edmund Berke once said, â⬠For evil to flourish , good men must do nothing. ââ¬Å".The tragedies occured because the adults didnt take actions to help them. No one offered to help the girls and everyonr Just watched Reetah and Amanda being bullied. The Devil didn't stage this incident. It was all due to human actions and their level of conscience. The bullies did it because they thought it was fun. They didnt have the conscience to consider how the victims would feel. Is it ironic that we curse the Devil for the misfortunes and evil in this World when Satan punishes the evil doers for us ? We also praise the Lord for good things that happen and lament when our prayers are not answered.Good things happen with great effort. You don't get good grades Just by praying to God and not st udy. â⬠When you look into the sky , you dont look for God , you look in yourself. â⬠as quoted from Alan Watts. Evil things happen with human actions . You backstab your collegue to without your conscience. Don't blame others for your deeds. If God is up there , why does he let so many good people suffer ? Abraham Lincoln was assassinated for trying to help the Blacks , Junko Furuta was brutally mutilated hen she had done nothing wrong ?
